This hotel has an excellent location on Saint Jean Street in Old Quebec. We were very impressed with the staff. The people who we met were very warm and accommodating. With the price of our room the hotel included breakfast, Internet, movies and popcorn. Our room was of a decent size, well lit with dimmer switches for mood lighting. It had a great stone wall, light coloured modern wood furniture, a seating area, very large flat screen TV, DVD player, Coffee maker (good coffee), fridge and safe. The bed was soft, with toss pillows, a comforter layered between two sheets, and a cozy quilt lay at the foot of the bed. The hotel has a very nice lounge with two computers. We enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine in front of the fireplace our first night. There is a decent exercise room in the basement. The hotel seems to be renovating several rooms but we were not disturbed. We highly recommend Hotel de Vieux Quebec and will stay there again if we go back to Quebec City.

“Improving the picnic basket”

October 18, 2009 | Trip type: Couples

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights (early October 2009): an amazing hotel in a great location: we had a very attractive, spacious corner room - really appreciated the free Wi-Fi and the refrigerator and security safe. We drove from Ohio, parked the car under the Town Hall practically across the street from the hotel and left it there until we left. Breakfast: we really enjoyed the picnic basket concept but our only suggestion regarding "improving" the service would be to let guests state, on check-in, a choice of bread or croissants (not everyone wants cinnamon or chocolate croissants for breakfast) - however, there's a great little bakery about a minute's walk from the hotel - I went there each morning for a baguette to supplement our breakfast. We've stayed at other Quebec City hotels, including the Chateau Frontenac, but the Hotel du Vieux Quebec will be our only choice in future visits.

Keating Family -
We are always open to our guest’s suggestions and will vary the ingredients each morning.

Fantastic location and staff - stay here!

Stayed 3 nights in June and cannot fault this great little hotel. Right on the main street and walking distance to everything. Room clean, comfy and quiet. Free internet access was very welcome. Was SO excited when we got our little breakfast basket each morning and nice to be able to eat breakfast whenever you feel like it. Staff most helpful and friendly with directions and tours as needed, in particular Claudie who was a delight and really made our stay in Quebec special. We also stayed one night at the Chateau Frontenac and the staff there do not compare. For value and location do not hesitate to book this hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel du Vieux Quebec for two nights. This hotel is perfectly located on one of the main touristy streets so all is close by or within walking distance. Inside it was blissfully quiet; we couldn't hear any noise from the street or other guests within the hotel.
All staff at the front desk were very helpful and always friendly. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had a lot of character. The fridge was a huge for our beer and water supply and the breakfast basket with continental breakfast (and daily weather forecast included!) was both unique and appreciated.

“Great hotel, great service, wonderful weekend!

Had a wonderful stay at L'Hotel du Vieux. The location, the price, and the service were simply excellent. One of the receptionists, Claudie, was always most eager to help and most helpful with various directions. Thank you so much for your help and your most genuine service!!
I travelled with my husband and 3 yrs old. With the many toys available for the little one in their lounge area, my son was a happy camper. We also appreciated the breakfast basket - very nice touch. We can only wish that someone could deliver a daily morning basket like that to our home :-).
Thanks again for making our "long" weekend a great one.

PS: Pierre, thank you to you as well for a great job with our reservation.

My husband, myself and my 13 year old son stayed at L'Hotel du Vieux June 6-8 2009. It was in an excellent location close to all of the local attractions as well as cafes and shops. The hotel was very clean and decorated tastefully. The staff were very helpful pointing out must see attractions and advising us the quickest way to see everything. The breakfast was delivered in a wicker basket in the morning which was a nice way to start the day. We would definetly stay at this hotel again!

I recently stayed four nights at L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec and was absolutely charmed. The staff was warm and friendly and the hotel was full of character. From the hardwood floors to the small kitchenette to the location, the whole experience was wonderful. The hotel is close to all the major sites in Old Quebec and convenient to many restaurants and the shopping on Rue St Jean. The best feature, however, was the continental breakfast hung on your door every morning in a small picnic basket. The hotel was quiet and though you could get easily get lost in the hallways that just added to the charm. I will definitely stay here again if I am ever in Quebec City again.

"Great Location, Service and Value"
The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and for the price you can’t beat the location. The rooms are clean, comfortable and recently updated. I would highly reccomend this hotel for anyone who is going to Quebec City on a budget.

"Quebec’s best!"
This is the best location and quaintest hotel in Quebec city! We arranged late check in (1:30 a.m.) and were greeted with very friendly service, and upgraded to a deluxe room. Very comfortable beds and pillows; spacious room with quiet aircon, flat screen tv and dvd player (no charge for dvds); coffee, safe and fridge in the room. Wonderful continental breakfast presented in a picnic basket hung from our door, which allowed us to sleep in late and still enjoy a delightful snack of croissants, jam, cheese, oj and fresh cream for coffee. Although our room faced a side street, lighting was good, and the hotel location is perfect for walking to all of Quebec’s sights. We had considered the Frontenac, but this boutique hotel is far better value and accessible to all major attractions. We were very pleasantly surprised, and would definitely stay there again.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

A better time to visit would have been during winter festival (Jan/Feb), or summer, although all attractions were still open, and the Christmas decorations were festive. The Harbour market, dinner at L’Astral, and the inexpensive ferry trip across the river for the view of Quebec were worthwhile visits.

"Very Nice"
Excellent location (main shopping/service street in old city) near many shops, restaurants, and pubs. On a "main" (2-lane) street, but very quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was very large (almost too large) and had apparently been recently rennovated. Very nice lounge area with fireplace, games, and books. Coffee maker in room (nice selection of teas available at desk). Breakfast (croissants, juice, fruit cup, cheese) placed in a basket and hung outside your door in the morning. Overall excellent, especially for the price. Did not use the parking, but a car is not needed in Vieux Quebec.

"A fabulous stay in every way"
Greetings! My wife and I, along with our two teenage daughters, stayed at Hotel du Vieux Quebec from August 8-13. It was a fabulous stay in every way! As promised, our room was clean, spacious, and well furnished, as well as quiet, "homey," and very comfortable, with all the amenities. Of course, the continental breakfast delivered - literally - to our door each morning was a wonderful touch. The hotel's location was convenient and central to everything we wanted to see and do in the old city and beyond. All of that was great, but what we found to be the most remarkable and special were the people -- the hotel staff was simply wonderful! In particular, the folks at the front desk (especially Kim, Cynthia and Claudie) were warm, friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. From the day I made our reservation until the moment we checked out, they greeted us with smiles and enthusiasm, graciously helped us find our way around, gave many excellent recommendations for dining (among other activities), and happily shared their insights about the city. In addition, although we did not manage to get their names, we were also very pleased and impressed the bellmen and with the housekeeping staff. Quebec City is really a beautiful and engaging city, and we enjoyed our visit immensely. Please know that our stay at Hotel du Vieux Quebec helped to make it so. We're sure to come back to visit both! Thanks again!

"Right in the heart of it all"
Nice stay! be ready to walk like you’ve never walked before. Street that the hotel is on closes down every evening to traffic so patio’s can come out. very busy! Breakfast at your door was nice but croissants cold 4 days in a row? Front desk staff really nice.

"Pleasantly surprised"
The hotel is an old, small building structure located in a high density tourist area. It is in a great location, but my concerns when booking were noise, people traffic, and that the rooms might be a little run down. To my surprise, the rooms were quiet, very spacious, clean, and well maintained. The hotel lobby and common area were not busy. The single elevator was quick, and I was always able to get on to one of the two computers in the common area. The service was friendly and helpful in both English and French languages. There’s no question this hotel will be at the top of our list when we return to Quebec City.

Traveller's tip

Driving in Vieux Quebec where the hotel is located is a nightmare, particularly for those like me entering the area for the first time. When first getting to the hotel, I suggest parking the vehicle in the 10 min loading zone close by. After checking in, move the vehicle to the U/G parking lot recommended by the hotel, and leave it there for the duration of your stay. All the major tourist attractions are within walking distance.

"Awesome hotel!"
Three of us stayed in room 404 for a week. It was large and very comfortable. They had extra pillows and blankets, an iron and ironing board, hair dryer and in room coffee to go with your little basket of breakfast. They also have free internet connection if you brought your lap top, or if not, have two computers you can use in the lounge. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. When we did not want to go to a French movie, they lent us a DVD player and American movie to watch in our room. They even had popcorn! The hotel is located on a fun street filled with restaurants and shops in the heart of Old Quebec, a most convenient location. We parked around the corner in the 24 underground lot and the hotel had discounts for the parking charge. I would rate this hotel a 10 out of 10 and unqualifiedly recommend it.

"Great Location and Great Small Hotel"
I stayed in Room 301, which is a small but refurbished room in the back of the hotel. The room was a delight, modern, with spot lighting in the ceiling, a great desk area, a flat screen TV, and a great bathroom area. The basket with pastry and juice on the door is a nice touch, as others have noted. But no one’s mentioned the in-room coffee. It was the best I’ve had! What a nice surprise. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Add me to the many who recommend this small, stylish hotel in Old Quebec. It’s truly in the middle of everything, and I’ll be back!

"A nice little place..."
Hotel Du Vieux Quebec is a nice little place to stay; the continental breakfast comes in a tiny picnic basket (hung on a hook outside your door by 7 AM) and makes this place a nice value. The front desk staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and was very patient with Americans eager to speak their French. Centrally located on Rue St. Jean, its easy access to all the sites, restaurants and bars. Bon voyage! Now’s the time to see Quebec City, it’s their 400th birthday and there’s plenty to do.

"Great place to stay"
This was small hotel with a lounge that contained books to borrow and games to play. The hotel was quiet and located right in the middle of old town. The staff was excellent and the breakfast (included) was delivered everyday in a basket hanging on your door. It was quiet and next to a very French bistro. i would recommend this hotel to those looking for a smaller, rather charming experience.

"Perfect location in Old Quebec"
We were only in Quebec for 2 days and the staff at Hotel du Vieux Quebec helped us make the most of our short time there. The hotel is in a perfect location for walking to most of the sites in Old Quebec, including the Chateau Frontenac hotel. The room was nice and clean, and the lobby includes a comfy living room, complete with fireplace and board games. The breakfast basket was nice a nice touch. The croissant and brioche from a nearby bakery were yummy.

Traveller's tip on dining

There is small restaurant directly connected to the hotel lobby that offers good food at a decent price in a lively atmosphere. Lots of interesting stuff on the menu, including a pizza with escargot! We didn’t have any bad food during the time we were in Old Quebec. Excellent cafes seem to be everywhere.

"Great Location"
If you are in Quebec City you must stay “within the walls”. This lovely little hotel is right in the heart of the old city. The staff went out of their way to book dinner reservations for us and assist us with our sightseeing. You can walk everywhere from this hotel and the breakfast basket is a nice touch. Would definitely stay there again.

We were there on the Easter weekend, it was very cold. We liked it very much to come back in our nice room escaping the chilly cold outside. And we loved our "Picnic"-breakfast every morning... and the location is great.

"Can’t wait to go back"
Old European charm with the modern day updates. There is great history behind the building. The staff was very helpful and gave great suggestions. What separated this hotel from all of the other hotels was the charming method of serving a continental breakfast. I woke up every morning excited to peek outside and see the little basket hanging off the door. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this hotel in future visits.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

The hotel is on one of the main streets of old Quebec, just inside one of the ports of the wall.

"Loved it"
This hotel was right in old town section, close to everything, has a wonderful little restaurant attached (loved the mussels). The people were very friendly; we adored the little basket of pastry and fruit every morning. We have a working dog we travel with; she was welcomed warmly and given treats every day. It was wonderful and we would definitely stay there again.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

This hotel is walking distance from almost everything, had access to parking garage but we did not use our car. Walked or took the bus, it was great.

"Enjoyable stay"
We were very happy with the location on St.Jean in old Quebec City. Did not bother to rent a car as we enjoyed our winter walk through this beautiful city. Staff was exceptional, offering us tour info and other tips to great spots in the city. Pleasantly surprised with their large communal room that was full of books, computer access and fireplace with comfy couches. Only downside: our room was on the main floor next to the elevators. This meant we heard fellow travelers and their luggage at different times of the evening. I would definitely stay there again, and ask for upper floor room.

Very spacious rooms and the location was the best. We went for the Winter Carnival and we were within walking distance to everything, it was nice to walk back to our room for a rest and to warm up by the lovely fireplace in the lounge. We found the rooms quiet and relaxing.

"Definitely the Quebec City’s Best Hotel"
This hotel could not be more conveniently located. It is close to the best attractions of the city. I left my car in the parking (across the street) and walked to all the places I wanted to be. The quality of service I received by the staff of the hotel was really high. The "included" High Speed Internet service was definitely a good thing. When I come back this year to come (400th anniversary of the city) this would be the hotel to stay in.

The hotel is located on the North side of old Quebec City. Location is very convenient for walking around, although parking was expensive and driving can be confusing within the old city walls. Overall, I would return and would recommend it over other places I have been to in QC.

"Highly recommended"
We stayed for a week at Hotel du Vieux and appreciated the hotel each day. Breakfast was such a nice touch and the room was always clean. They upgraded us at no extra cost to a king size bed from queen. The hotel is located right downtown which was perfect for walking in from the VIA rail station, and to get to the congress centre each day. For leisure visits, it is the perfect location to shop, drop off parcels, and then head out again. Perfect location as well to head out for a nice dinner with your hotel room only a short walk away. Highly recommended. Will plan to return each time we visit Quebec!

"Great Location in the middle of Old Quebec"
The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was included and came in a basket that they left at your door. Nothing fancy but it filled us up until lunch. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They have about 100 movies to rent from the front desk and they include microwave popcorn! Great experience!

"A GREAT place to stay!"
We just came back from a 3-day holiday at Hotel du Vieux Quebec and had a great time! The staff could not be any friendlier and helpful! They were always very eager to answer our questions and went above and beyond most times (there was always someone to open the door for us when we returned from sight-seeing!). It is also a pet friendly hotel which doesn’t charge any fees for pets - we found this incredible since we’re used to paying $15/night for our dog. They also provide a continental breakfast that gets delivered to your door each morning at 7:30am in a picnic basket. The contents are fresh French-Canadian pastries from a bakery down the street. When we go back to Quebec City, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else!

This was our first visit to Quebec City and we lucked out based on Expedia’s rating system. We found this hotel to be perfectly located and a short walk to everything in "Vieux" Quebec.
