| Travellers rate Hotel Du Vieux Quebec, Québec City |
‘’Great location, service & style” A traveller from Cheshire, UK recommends this hotel Right at the heart of Old Quebec yet so peaceful. Spotlessly clean and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast lovely too. Prices a little higher than other cities for what you get but this is Quebec so this place gives good value. Don't waste your money on the Chateau Frontenac (which imo is a bit of a monster). There is a free walking tour of the old parts (about an hour & a half) which gives a good intro. Incidentally this is the only hotel we've visited in Canada that has a secure network so you can use the internet securely as well as for free. We're so glad we chose this hotel and have no hesitation in fully recommending it.
“Well Located” A traveller from North Carolina recommends this hotel This hotel was intimate with a very nice lounge and a bustling restaurant downstairs. It is situated in the heart of old Quebec, upper town, a couple of blocks below the Chateau Frontenac. Although the area was lively our room was at the back and very quiet. Staff was bilingual and helpful. The hotel also provided a guided walking tour at no charge (other then the tip) with a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide. It’s worth the hour and a half to get your bearings and learn about the upper town (tour didn’t go to the lower town). Only small problems: at check-in our room safe did not work but was soon fixed. Our in-room refrigerator also did not work and was never fixed.
“In the heart of the action”
This hotel is on a fairly busy street in Old Quebec, yet our room - facing the street on the 3rd floor - was amazingly quiet. (It was hot so we were usually using some AC, which probably factored into the quietness.) You can walk out the door and have your choice of amazing restaurants (try the nice Moroccan one through the archway directly across the street) and all of the attractions such as tours, street performers, etc. The staff was very nice. They leave breakfast for you outside your room (in a lovely basket), and the pastries are good, but the nasty fruit cocktail is, well, nasty, and you can just skip the industrially-bland in-room coffee. Prices are a bit too high for the size of the room, but prices are all high in Old Quebec in the summer.
“Fantastic Old Quebec Hospitality” A traveller from New Hampshire recommends this hotel What a fantastic little hotel! The location, the staff, the amenities, and the fresh breakfast all exceeded my expectations! I could not wait to see what fresh pastries would find their way into our breakfast basket each morning. The staff was delightful and very helpful (especially with making arrangements for tours, cruises, etc). I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
“The best location, service, rooms” A traveller from Richmond Hill recommends this hotel You can't get any better!! This charming hotel is in the best location within the walls of Old Quebec which you should stay in. The service is genuine and extremely helpful in all areas. The rooms spacious, very clean and the breakfast included is so European style, nice touch! I can't say enough, I am very fussy and like details, this hotel is it from all angles, staff, rooms, service, and location. I truly can't wait to go back. Thank you Pierrot and Geoffrey - your service outstanding!!!
“Can't Say Enough How Great Our Stay Was” A traveller from Erin recommends this hotel We were traveling with our 2 daughters and nephew as well as our 2 dogs. What a great reception when we got to the hotel. It was right in the centre of everything, easy walking distance to all the historic sites. The gentleman at the front desk was great with our kids. They had movies the kids could borrow and watch on the VCR's in the room and when they checked them out, the man at the front desk popped up popcorn for them to take up and make the night complete. They had a great lounge with a fireplace on the main floor where you could sit and relax. The rooms were clean, a good size especially for the price which is a fraction of what other hotels near buy cost. But it had so much more charm and character. Just when we didn't think it could get any better, the next morning there were these great baskets on the front door with hot croissants, yogurt and juice. If you are going to Quebec City, book this hotel. It was quiet, the rooms were great, the service was wonderful. Can't say enough about how great out stay was here.
“Over all Nice Hotel” A traveller from Saint Joseph, Illinois recommends this hotel
This hotel has some nice touches—like a breakfast basket with fresh pastries and juice delivered to your door each morning. The location of this hotel couldn’t be much better for tourists. My husband really liked this hotel. I thought our room was small and the bathroom was smaller. (About 3x4 foot of unoccupied floor space!) I tend to like a more contemporary and open feel to a hotel, but this hotel is within the old walled portion of the city, and they aren't going for a sleek look, obviously. We did have some trouble with street noise at night, but we also stayed during the summer festival, and there were many people in the streets into the early morning hours. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.
“A Lovely Hotel in the central old town” A traveller from BC recommends this hotel Hotel du Vieux Quebec is a very lovely hotel. Its location is very good, too. Just 10 minutes walk to almost anywhere. The front desk staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the city for tourists. Plus, the daily continental breakfast being put in a small basket will make your day start with fresh, warm greeting. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
“Best Hotel ever after traveling to 30 countries” A traveller from Anchorage, Alaska recommends this hotel My wife and I just returned from HVQ after spending 4 days and nights there with her elderly parents. I have been to the best of European and US hotels - this place gets it. Great location, friendly welcome, great rooms, all the amenities down to a small light into the safe so you can see you have not left anything. We did stay in the King Superior rooms which are some of the best rooms. The basket on your door with fresh pastries and juice for breakfast and wonderful coffee was a nice touch. One night after walking too much we just wanted to stay in, so the hotel has 500 DVDs and then offered fresh popcorn. Everything to make it special. Thank you Justin - you do it right!!!!!
"Very Good Location!” A traveller from Ottawa recommends this hotel This hotel has an awesome location, 10 minute walk from the train station (although be ready for VERY STEEP climb on your way to the hotel!). 5 minute walk to the chateau and boardwalk area right in the middle of beautiful old Quebec city. Every morning you wake up with a cute little basket of croissants, pastries and jam hanging on your door! There was a DVD player in the room; you can rent DVD’s for free from the hotel. Bed was just O.K. And the walls are kinda thin... so sometimes we can hear people next to us perfectly. And cool soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower and sink, to save from using the small little bottles, very eco friendly.
“Worth shelling out the $$ for.” A traveller from Wigton, Cumbria, UK recommends this hotel Lovely little hotel! It's nicely furnished, with a decent kitchenette and lovely bathrooms. The desk and TV area are great and my party loved the breakfast picnic baskets. Delicious and good value. The location of the hotel is great and the downstairs restaurant is also worth a visit.
“Lovely hotel” A traveller from Australia recommends this hotel We had an enjoyable 2 night stay here. Staff was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful, the location within the old town is good and our room was very nicely appointed. We were thrilled to receive our picnic baskets hanging on the door each morning - such a lovely touch! We also made use of the library and the complimentary DVD player/movies. Overall a lovely place to stay!
“I will go back!” A traveller from Milford,CT recommends this hotel I will go back to Quebec and specifically to the Hotel Du Vieux Quebec again. A beautiful city and the accommodating staff made the trip very memorable. My daughter and I were able to walk to any location of the old town area. We really enjoyed the many historic sites and wonderful restaurants.
A traveller from London, Ontario recommends this hotel Our room was a standard Queen but was perfect for a weekend getaway. The location and staff are what make this hotel such a wonderful place. The room was small but had everything we needed. Bed was a bit firm and we were located on the street side (though on a cool April night the streets were pretty quiet) but the hotel itself is solid. We never heard any guests above us or next to us. The lounge area is an excellent place to unwind after a day of seeing the sights. Hotel is inside the fortified walls and therefore you can walk to all of the sights.
A traveller from Toronto, Ontario recommends this hotel We were two couples visiting Quebec City for the weekend and we chose this hotel from the reviews online. We had a fabulous time and it definitely surpassed our expectations. As mentioned in other reviews, the location is excellent. The rooms we had were quiet, spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and well equipped with mini fridge and safe, coffee maker (kettles for tea are available), Large Flat screen TV, DVD players , wireless internet and the usual hairdryer, desk, phone. What really made our trip was the service. The front desk was a real pleasure to speak to - very friendly and helpful. They offer little extras that make you feel appreciated. For example, when we chose a movie to watch, we were given popcorn to go with it. Coming in from a walk I was chilled from the wind and was given hot chocolate to warm up. In the evening, we were relaxing in the lounge and met the owner who gave us good restaurant suggestions and served us a glass of port.
“Best Hotel I’ve stayed in EVER!” A traveller from Ohio recommends this hotel Absolutely everything about this hotel was delightful, from the staff to the breakfasts, to the movies and popcorn! It was the warmest and friendliest establishment, with the most helpful staff I have encountered in a lifetime of avid travel. Truly charming. Delightful in EVERY way. C’est tres magnifique! Everything you need. Very friendly, helpful staff (despite having to speak English for our benefit). Room was very nice, clean and adequate. Great location in the old city! And the restaurant downstairs was awesome.
“Outstanding hotel and enviro friendly to boot” Barrie, ONTARIO This place is incredible. We stayed in a superior queen room which was completely worth the extra $10 or so. Once we got inside the room we were blown away by the large size of the room, the cleanliness and many, many upgrades. 50 inch LCD TV in the room, new fixtures, tub, tile everything was redone. We did not realize when we checked in but the hotel has won many provincial and federal awards for its environmental efforts. What hotel can you think of that buys carbon credits to offset the ones they produce? This one does. After all this I still have not mentioned the incredible in-room complimentary breakfast of fresh pastries, juices and jams from the local bakery; located right around the corner. If you stay here you will not be disappointed and if you get a chance check out the restaurant right next to the lobby.
“Amazing Customer Service” Hanover, New Hampshire We picked Hotel Vieux Quebec mainly because of its location - it’s within the walled city, just a few blocks from the Chateau Frontenac and the Musee De La Civilisation. The rooms were clean, comfortable and very spacious. That said, the real standout feature of this hotel is the customer service. Every morning, we woke up with a picnic basket of fresh croissants, maple spread and orange juice hanging from our door. In the afternoons, the hotel staff offered us hot chocolate (both dark chocolate and milk chocolate flavors) to warm us up after a morning of sightseeing. In the evenings, we took advantage of the hotel’s extensive DVD library and the hotel staff popped bowls of popcorn for us to enjoy while watching our movies.
“Festivals have drawbacks, but good restaurants don’t.” Montreal To get right to the most important part: the hotel is outstanding. Kind service, great location, nice rooms... Room decor perhaps not great, but more than adequate. Besides, the flat-panel TV more than made up for shortcomings of room decorations, if there were any. Then there are `nice touches`: free DVD rentals (wide selection of movies), breakfast croissants from a local bakery, real restaurant on premises. Unlike most hotel restaurants, this one is no joke. I recommend it highly (and it is priced decently for the area). The location is just amazing, right in the heart of this charming old city. A short walk from several major attractions. This is where the only drawback came from. If, like us, you visit during a major festival, getting to the hotel by car may be an issue (unless you know where to go). Once we got to the hotel, the staff helped us out. But getting there was a difficulty. Next time I will call ahead and ask...
“Cool” Ontario Awesome old world hotel, in old world Quebec but with all the modern conveniences. We loved the picnic breakfast. We could walk everywhere!
"Quaint and Romantic" Toronto, Ontario Located inside the old walled area of the City, this hotel is very clean, staff were extremely helpful, did everything possible to make our stay remember able. We loved getting our continental breakfast each morning in a picnic basked hung on our room door.
A little gem in the heart of Quebec Philadelphia, P.A Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful. The main room is cozy, with Internet access, books, fireplace. The restaurant next door is delic. Great location for walking everywhere. The rooms are clean and the decor is great. Great selection of movie to watch in your room.
“Fabulous hotel in the center of all the action” Boston, MA Fantastic hotel!!! The staff was very courteous, completely bilingual and very helpful (picking restaurants, etc.). The hotel was very clean. And breakfast was great! I’m recommending this hotel to everyone.
“Great deal for old Quebec” Toronto The best part of the experience is the continental breakfast served at your room in the morning. They place it in a cute basket on your door, which gives it a nice bed and breakfast, small hotel feel.
“A great portal to Old Quebec hospitality” Moncton, New Brunswick We arrived the day before Christmas Eve, and left on Boxing Day. Everything is very smooth, relaxed yet professional. Rooms are well maintained, quiet and have extra touches that are meaningful. The breakfast outside room door in the morning is small, but adequate for those who do not want a large meal. This is a very well run operation.
“Positively Impressed” A traveller from Minnesota recommends this hotel My husband and I were attracted to this reasonably-priced, small family-owned hotel because of its small size, very natural (and not at all pretentious) green focus, and the lovely breakfast baskets that were hung on our door every morning. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English, and the location was absolutely perfect for a vacationing couple (or family) - right in the heart of the Old Quebec and in walking distance to several restaurants, shops, ATM (which was right across the street), and small grocery stores with delis, where we bought many of our lunches. The room had a fridge for our leftovers. Also, it was nice not to be located right above a noisy bar. When we went on bus tours, the tour company bus picked us up right at our hotel door, for no additional cost. We would definitely stay at this hotel again! Our visit was in November (a nice time to visit), but next time we plan to come in late spring or summer.
“Fabulous!!” A traveller from Toronto, Ontario recommends this hotel This hotel has an excellent location on Saint Jean Street in Old Quebec. We were very impressed with the staff. The people who we met were very warm and accommodating. With the price of our room the hotel included breakfast, Internet, movies and popcorn. Our room was of a decent size, well lit with dimmer switches for mood lighting. It had a great stone wall, light coloured modern wood furniture, a seating area, very large flat screen TV, DVD player, Coffee maker (good coffee), fridge and safe. The bed was soft, with toss pillows, a comforter layered between two sheets, and a cozy quilt lay at the foot of the bed. The hotel has a very nice lounge with two computers. We enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine in front of the fireplace our first night. There is a decent exercise room in the basement. The hotel seems to be renovating several rooms but we were not disturbed. We highly recommend Hotel de Vieux Quebec and will stay there again if we go back to Quebec City.
“Improving the picnic basket” October 18, 2009 | Trip type: Couples My wife and I stayed for 4 nights (early October 2009): an amazing hotel in a great location: we had a very attractive, spacious corner room - really appreciated the free Wi-Fi and the refrigerator and security safe. We drove from Ohio, parked the car under the Town Hall practically across the street from the hotel and left it there until we left. Breakfast: we really enjoyed the picnic basket concept but our only suggestion regarding "improving" the service would be to let guests state, on check-in, a choice of bread or croissants (not everyone wants cinnamon or chocolate croissants for breakfast) - however, there's a great little bakery about a minute's walk from the hotel - I went there each morning for a baguette to supplement our breakfast. We've stayed at other Quebec City hotels, including the Chateau Frontenac, but the Hotel du Vieux Quebec will be our only choice in future visits. Keating Family -
“Fantastic location and staff - stay here!” Jun 21, 2009 | Trip type: Couples Stayed 3 nights in June and cannot fault this great little hotel. Right on the main street and walking distance to everything. Room clean, comfy and quiet. Free internet access was very welcome. Was SO excited when we got our little breakfast basket each morning and nice to be able to eat breakfast whenever you feel like it. Staff most helpful and friendly with directions and tours as needed, in particular Claudie who was a delight and really made our stay in Quebec special. We also stayed one night at the Chateau Frontenac and the staff there do not compare. For value and location do not hesitate to book this hotel.
“Location, location, location!” Busterboots 13 contributions We stayed at the Hotel du Vieux Quebec for two nights. This hotel is perfectly located on one of the main touristy streets so all is close by or within walking distance. Inside it was blissfully quiet; we couldn't hear any noise from the street or other guests within the hotel.
“Great hotel, great service, wonderful weekend!” familytravelB 2 contributions Had a wonderful stay at L'Hotel du Vieux. The location, the price, and the service were simply excellent. One of the receptionists, Claudie, was always most eager to help and most helpful with various directions. Thank you so much for your help and your most genuine service!!
“Everything we wished for!” blondie014 9 contributions My husband, myself and my 13 year old son stayed at L'Hotel du Vieux June 6-8 2009. It was in an excellent location close to all of the local attractions as well as cafes and shops. The hotel was very clean and decorated tastefully. The staff were very helpful pointing out must see attractions and advising us the quickest way to see everything. The breakfast was delivered in a wicker basket in the morning which was a nice way to start the day. We would definetly stay at this hotel again!
“Wonderful Stay” Logan I recently stayed four nights at L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec and was absolutely charmed. The staff was warm and friendly and the hotel was full of character. From the hardwood floors to the small kitchenette to the location, the whole experience was wonderful. The hotel is close to all the major sites in Old Quebec and convenient to many restaurants and the shopping on Rue St Jean. The best feature, however, was the continental breakfast hung on your door every morning in a small picnic basket. The hotel was quiet and though you could get easily get lost in the hallways that just added to the charm. I will definitely stay here again if I am ever in Quebec City again.
A traveller from Oakton, VA recommends this hotel "Great Location, Service and Value"
Alex K from Edmonton recommends this hotel "Quebec’s best!" Traveller's tip on local attractions A better time to visit would have been during winter festival (Jan/Feb), or summer, although all attractions were still open, and the Christmas decorations were festive. The Harbour market, dinner at L’Astral, and the inexpensive ferry trip across the river for the view of Quebec were worthwhile visits.

A traveller from Calgary recommends this hotel "Pleasantly surprised" Traveller's tip Driving in Vieux Quebec where the hotel is located is a nightmare, particularly for those like me entering the area for the first time. When first getting to the hotel, I suggest parking the vehicle in the 10 min loading zone close by. After checking in, move the vehicle to the U/G parking lot recommended by the hotel, and leave it there for the duration of your stay. All the major tourist attractions are within walking distance.
